Campus France Application Process 2026 for Indian Students | Study in France Guide

If you are an Indian student planning to study in France in 2026-27, completing the Campus France India application process is your first step. This should be done before the visa, and every other thing. Campus France is the official French government agency that manages international student admissions. Every Indian student must register on the Études en France (EEF) portal and pass a Campus France interview before the French consulate processes their student visa application.

Why Is Campus France Mandatory for Indian Students?

India is part of the ‘Procedures CEF’ (Centre pour les Études en France) initiative, so the Campus France process is mandatory, not optional. It ensures that students genuinely plan to study in France, confirms the authenticity of admissions, and checks that academic qualifications and language skills match the chosen program. Skipping this process will lead to immediate rejection of the French student visa at the consulate.

How to Apply on the Campus France Portal (Études en France): Step-by-Step

Step 1: Create Your EEF Portal Account. Go to https://pastel.diplomatie.gouv.fr/etudesenfrance to create your account. Use a personal email address, as all Campus France India communications, including your Final Confirmation Email, will be sent here. Avoid college email IDs that might get deactivated.

Step 2: Enter Personal and Academic Information: Fill in your details exactly as they appear in your passport. List all qualifications from 10th standard onward.

Step 3: Add Language Proficiency and Programs: Upload your IELTS/TOEFL/PTE scores for English-taught programs, or DELF/DALF/TCF/TEF scores for French-taught ones. Then, add the French university programs you are applying to.

Step 4: Upload Documents: Scan all required documents (see checklist below) in PDF or JPEG format, making sure each file is under 350 KB. Blurry or incomplete scans are among the most common causes of delays in the Campus France India process.

Step 5: Pay the Campus France Processing Fee: The Campus France India processing fee for 2026 is ₹18,500, and it is non-refundable. Always pay via net banking since debit and credit card payments often fail on the portal.

Step 6: Attend the Campus France Interview: A Campus France Manager, not a visa officer, will call you for a 20-40-minute discussion at your nearest Campus France India office (Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad). Be prepared to answer questions like: Why France? Why this university? What are your career goals?

  • Valid Passport (first and last pages)
  • Recent Passport-Sized Photograph (white background)
  • Scholarship Award Letters (if applicable)
  • Motivation Letter addressed to Campus France (different from your university SOP, focus on why France, why this programme, and your post-study plans; one page is ideal)

The Campus France Interview and Final Confirmation Email:

The Campus France interview for Indian students is an academic discussion, not a visa interview. The Campus France Manager will assess whether your study plan makes sense, whether you understand your programme, and whether your intent is genuinely academic. Common Campus France interview questions include: Why did you choose France for your studies? Why this specific university? What are your short-term and long-term career goals? Research your institution beforehand; it leaves a strong impression. After the interview, you will receive the Campus France “Final Confirmation Email” within 2-10 business days. This email is mandatory; the French consulate will not process your student visa for France without it.
